My Top 5 Songs of 2013

There was a lot of great music released in the past year.  A view of the 2013 Pop Danthology is enough to tell you that.  Therefore, coming up with a list of personal Top 5 Songs for 2013 is a bit on the tricky side.  The funny thing about this year is that this list could move around on any given day depending on the mood I’m in.  Still here’s a look at how the year broke out in listening for this guy:

I flat out don’t get the music video for this one, but the song delivers something of an energy boost that you can feel in your bones.  It has a quality in tone and delivery that stays with you throughout the day, and any song that can deliver the word “Radioactive” in the lyrics on regular basis deserves some sort of recognition.

Talk about songs you never get sick of, this duet ends up being one of the most played songs of the summer and fall.  It is hard to ignore the vocal styles and distinctive voices of both artists, once you factor in the top notch writing, this song delivers a lot of emotion in a little bit of time.  You can’t ask for much more than that.

While the videos by this newcomer are a bit confusing, there is no mistaking that voice.  Lorde delivers a haunting type of vocals (matched with a smile that has enough wattage to light up Piccadilly Circus) and some of the best lyrics I’ve heard in years.

Even though Justine Timberlake is one of the most gifted human beings on this planet, his music continues to be above average.  This song says everything you’ve ever wanted to say to a loved one in a few minutes.  Really, why can’t every song be this darn good?

Even though this song is popping up at sporting events across the country, it has that funky beat, rapid fire vocals, and that hook that is simply addicting.  It deserves to be in this list somewhere, and with the number of plays it received (thank you iTunes) it was the clear winner for my top song of 2013.
